The international tuba competitions have played a major role in promoting young players and contributing to the recognition of the tuba’s potential virtuosity and its importance in an orchestral setting.
Of course, the reality of the orchestral tuba player is one of a certain solitude, even if tuba players are renowned for their sociability, as they are usually the only one playing this instrument in the orchestra.
It is therefore very unusual to find a group of professional tuba players all together, except for auditions or international competitions. The rivalry and competitive nature of these events are not conducive to relaxed and friendly exchanges or encounters between colleagues.
The Geneva Tuba Forum aims to change this reality. Its goal is to create a dynamic synergy between the vertical energy of an international competition, where the objective is to promote young talent and the horizontal foundation of seminars and workshops where the objectives are collegiality, creativity, collaboration and a forum for new friendships.
In practice this means that from the second day onwards those who have not been selected to continue in the competition will participate in various themed workshops such as: Contemporary music and techniques with Gèrard Buquet, tuba ensembles and quartets with Mike Forbes. Various ensembles will be created during the forum from all the participants not appearing in the final. They will be coached by members of the jury and they will perform in the finalists’ concert on the Sunday before the prize winner is announced.À propos de swisstuba.ch
